The advent of the Internet has made an incredible amount of data and resources available for home owners, students, and businesses.  The benefit of having critical information and business systems available at high speed, anywhere, at any time is considered a necessity in today’s world.  Most small businesses cannot conduct day to day business without high speed Internet access anymore.  Although this is a great resource to have, a majority of home owners and businesses do
not follow safe industry standard practices when it comes to protecting their personal and confidential information.  It is far too easy to simply have a networking provider show up and install high speed Internet services.  Because these “professionals” are considered to be experts, no one questions if they are following basic industry standard security practices.  A basic high speed Internet service will include a router of some sort, and sometimes a firewall.  Both necessary pieces of equipment, but providers COMMONLY misuse or improperly configure these devices to keep the customer happy.
